The business model

A considered path
between artist and audience.

We are developing an art brokerage and digital platform that will connect Indigenous creators with buyers, while making the terms of representation clear.

01

Planned offering

Original works

Represent original artwork through consignment, with an agreed inventory, sale method, price, and artist information.

The planned service includes professional presentation, documentation of the work’s origin, and arrangements for handling, insurance, and delivery under the written agreement.

02

Planned offering

Fine art prints
& reproductions

Develop archival-quality prints and approved reproductions as additional ways for audiences to access Indigenous artwork.

Permission to reproduce a work is agreed separately from the sale of the original. The artist’s attribution and cultural guidance remain part of the presentation.

03

Planned offering

Digital licensing

Create clear agreements for selected personal, educational, and commercial uses of digital images.

The intended licence identifies the permitted use and its limits. Digitization, reproduction, and wider distribution depend on the artist’s agreed permissions.

How the model is intended to work

Relationship first.
Clear terms throughout.

Each step should reflect the artist’s choices and the nature of the work.

  1. 01

    Connect

Meet artists and community contacts. Learn about the work, its story, and the artist’s goals.

  2. 02

    Agree

Document permissions, cultural protocols, sale methods, and compensation for each work.

  3. 03

    Prepare

Develop profiles and approved imagery. Explore scanning or digitization where appropriate.

  4. 04

    Represent

Present work to audiences, manage agreed transactions, and account to artists.

Building a sustainable business

Opportunity
with accountability.

MMDA’s proposed revenue model includes commissions on original artwork and print sales, alongside agreed digital licensing arrangements.

The broader development concept also explores relationships with galleries, institutions, and collectors, including possible membership services. These remain development options, with details to be established before they are offered.

Technology plans include artist storytelling, high-quality digital records, and interactive ways to view selected works. Partnerships for scanning, cultural guidance, and delivery will be developed as the business takes shape.

For future buyers & partners

Indigenous presence
in the spaces we share.

We welcome early conversations with businesses, institutions, designers, galleries, and individuals interested in authentic Indigenous art.

Tell us about the space, the intended use, and the relationship you hope to build. These conversations can help shape the collection and services as MMDA develops.
