For Indigenous artists

Your work.
Your story.
Your voice in what comes next.

We welcome expressions of interest from emerging and established First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists as we work toward a Spring/Summer 2027 launch.

A first conversation

You can begin
where you are.

Introduce yourself, tell us about your practice, and share a portfolio or social link if you have one. You do not need a finished application to ask a question.

Introduce yourself

An enquiry does not grant MMDA rights to your artwork or create a consignment agreement.

Many forms of expression.

Painting, drawing, beadwork, carving, sculpture, photography, textiles, and digital art are all reflected in our artist profile materials.

We are interested in the range of traditional and contemporary practices, including work by artists whose voices have had limited market exposure.

Share only the stories and imagery you are comfortable sharing. Cultural or ceremonial material may require specific permissions or may not be appropriate for public presentation.

The proposed artist pathway

How to become involved.

Participation will be developed through conversation and written agreement. An expression of interest is the starting point.

  1. 01

    Start a conversation

Tell us your preferred name, your medium, and what you hope to explore with MMDA. Include a link to your work if available.

  2. 02

    Share your story and direction

The Artist Profile Information Form helps gather your biography, practice, and cultural guidance. It includes a choice to review your profile before publication.

  3. 03

    Discuss suitability and documentation

Talk with MMDA about the work, your community connections, and any documentation needed for participation. Ask the team how to provide identity documents securely.

  4. 04

    Agree on each work

If both parties choose to proceed, record the selected artwork, sale methods, permissions, and compensation in a written agreement before representation begins.

The current consignment framework

Know the terms.
Keep your voice.

The supplied standard agreement is available for review. Final participation and any changes to terms require written agreement with MMDA.

Copyright & consent

The template states that artists retain copyright and moral rights unless otherwise agreed in writing. MMDA may not alter, reproduce, or distribute a work beyond the agreed methods without written approval.

Exclusive consignment

The template gives MMDA exclusive sales rights for the works listed in the agreement, for its duration. Originals, prints, digital rights, reproductions, and exhibition are selected for each piece in Schedule A.

Responsibilities & payment

The template assigns insurance, shipping, digitization, display, packaging, and hosting costs to MMDA. It provides for artist payment within 30 days of a completed transaction, after commission.

Ending the agreement

The template allows either party to end the agreement by written notice. It provides for the return of unsold physical works at MMDA’s expense and for digital rights and reproductions to cease, except where separately licensed.

The stated commission scale

The current template uses a marginal scale based on the pre-tax realized sale price. Special project terms may be changed by mutual written agreement.

The enquiry form does not collect identity documents. Contact MMDA to discuss the appropriate return method.

Common questions

Before you
get in touch.

Do I need an established portfolio?

You can begin with a conversation. MMDA’s intention includes supporting both emerging and established artists. A link or a brief description of your work helps us learn about your practice.

Will my story or images be published automatically?

No. The profile form asks for publication consent, including an option to review the profile first. The intended approach is to agree on public information and artwork uses with you.

Does contacting MMDA give it rights to my work?

No. An initial enquiry is an introduction. Representation, licensing, and permitted sale methods are matters for a separate written agreement.

Is the collection open for sales now?

The business and sales platform are in development. The target launch window is Spring/Summer 2027, with timing and initial offerings subject to readiness.

Can a community organization introduce artists?

Yes. Community connectors and organizations can contact MMDA to discuss introductions and possible collaboration.

Let’s build this together

Tell us what you create.

A short introduction is enough to begin. We would like to hear about your work and what a respectful partnership means to you.
